Bedroom Paint Colors
Bedroom Paint Colors
When most people hear the term neutral, they automatically think that it has to be either white or beige. Two of the most boring colors in the world! If you have this mind set, maybe it’s time to "lighten" up and realize that not all neutral schemes have to include white... or beige for that matter. If you have been meaning to update the colors in your bedroom for a while now, to something not so bright and bold, but you also don’t want it to look boring and tired, it might be a good idea for you to read the blog below. We will be going over a few different color schemes, all of which include updated neutral colors, but nothing boring or "blah" by any means. Instead, you are going to see some grays, blues, browns, light purples and more. Hopefully once you see how un-boring these neutral schemes are, you can get a better understanding at just how beautiful neutrals can be.
Going Gray-er
Gray is a really popular color these days especially when it comes to neutral colors. A lot of people are going to tell you to go gray in a lighter hue, but I’m not going to do that. Instead, pick a focal wall, maybe a wall with a fireplace, or a special feature, and use a deep gray to paint the wall. This brings your eyes to that specific feature every time you come in the room. Accident walls have always been a popular option to consider; doesn’t matter if you have a large or a small space, accent walls are a great way to add in bold, deep, or unusual colors that you want in the room, but maybe don’t want all over every single wall. For this specific color theme, consider adding: Cracked Slate 540-6, City Lights 549-2 and Silver Charm 541-4. All of these paints are from Pittsburgh Paints by the way. The Pittsburgh Paint Cracked Slate 540-6 is used as the accent wall color. The Pittsburgh Paint City Lights 549-2 and Silver Charm 541-4 are used on the other walls (whatever color works for you out of the two) and the trim around the windows would be the opposing color i.e.; the other color from the two you didn’t choose. Add in extra colors similar to these paint colors by including a white comforter with light blue designs, a throw for the bottom of the bed in dark gray and some other colors like a brown lamp shade, white carpeting and wood sleigh bed to wrap it all up.
Soothing Blue Hues
If you like blue, but you don’t want to feel like you are in a child’s bedroom; it might be a good idea to add grey and blue in one room. Gray is a very sophisticated color, while blue will play it off, and makes the room seem a little more soothing or calm. Sometimes depending on the gray color hue, gray can be cold or depressing, but by adding in other colors like blue, it’s a perfect color scheme, even for an adult bedroom. Blue also goes really well in a hotter climate or in an area where you have a lot of windows that look out up at the sky, like in a bedroom. For this specific scheme the colors are: Moonah 3794-1, Swirling Water 3154-1, November Rain 3781-2 and Sterling Water 3780-2. These are all from Kelly Moore. The November Rain 3781-2 and Sterling Water 3780-2 are both used in the walls, flooring and bedding. The other two colors, which are both different shades of blue, are used in the throw pillows and rug on the flooring, as well as the Swirling Water 3154-1, which was used on an antiqued dresser next to the bed, using an antiquing technique.
Dark with Light Shades
If you like colors, but you also love the way dark brown, tans or black look in a bedroom as well - it gives it a very luxurious look and feel, you might want to consider mixing darks and lights together throughout a bedroom. This breaks the scheme up a little bit, so you don’t have all lights or all darks, and creates a really cozy feel to the room, which is probably important to you considering it’s a bedroom, a place where you need the mood to be just right. For this scheme we will be using Oatmeal, Vanilla, Mushroom and Chocolate for the mixture. The oatmeal is a very light tan color, vanilla is even lighter, with undertones of gray, mushroom is almost chocolate brown in color, deep and yet luxurious, and the last color is Chocolate which would be the gray in this scheme. In this scheme you want to paint the ceiling vanilla, the walls oatmeal (or vice versa for that matter) and the Mushroom is going to be used as an accent color alongside the Chocolate gray color. These last two colors can be added in using a mushroom brown headboard made of suede or leather, lamp shades, rugs, blankets and comforters, etc. The gray in this scheme is very minimal; it’s being used in small places like matte picture board with black and white photos, designs in the bedding, etc.
