Living Room Paint Colors
Living Room Paint Colors
If you are tired of the same old same old when it comes to living room painting in Brentwood and you are looking for a really easy way to crank the heat up, why not paint your walls some "spicy" colors like yellow, orange or red? It’s not unheard of after all, but very few people actually have the cajones to actually do it. If you want this to look good and not blast people away, there are a few tips you should consider. First off, these colors can be incredibly high intensity, especially in a smaller room. If you have a small living room or a living room with very little to no windows, consider keeping most of the room white, and adding in splashes of color by including things like vases, frames, lamp shades, throw pillows, etc. On the other hand, if you have a bigger living room or a living room with more natural light, you can, and should consider painting at least one of your walls; an accent wall, one of these fiery colors! Second off, red doesn’t always to mean fire engine red, in the same way that orange doesn’t always have to be blindingly bright. If you like red, but you want a more toned down version, consider picking a different hue - and no, this doesn’t mean I’m suggesting pink! There are thousands upon thousands of shades of these fiery colors, you just have to be patient and look for them. Take a look below for some ideas.
Architectural Features
If you have wall in your living room that you always hated because of its odd shape, style or design, this might be the perfect chance for you to "fix" it. No, were not knocking out walls, or putting something in front of it. Instead, were giving to accentuate it and hope for the best! Using color to emphasize a specific type of interesting or even having a type of architecture you don’t like is a great way to show it off, not hide it. In order to do this, you will want to include other colors of the color you choose for the feature, but in a different way. For instance, the colors we will be using here are; Dragon Fire S-G-240, Gentle Rain 790E-2, Wild Sage 700F-5 and Fire Island 190B-7. Let’s say for instance that you have a really nice fireplace in your living room, but the adjacent wall towards the top of the ceiling, slopes upwards. Instead of hiding it, consider something bold like Dragon Fire - just for the wall. Then incorporate a similar color, like Fire Island as a leather couch color next to the fireplace. The stone around the fireplace can be painted using Wild Sage - which is a deep gray and helps the orange pop with color. Then the other walls in the living room can be painted using a lighter gray, in this case Gentle Rain. Gentle rain is a gray color, but it has underlying hues of white and blue.
Open Floor Plans
A lot of people say that they love open floor plans. One complaint though, is that it’s a challenge making certain spaces available for certain functions i.e.; living room for watching TV and lounging, kitchen for cooking and hanging out, dining room for eating, etc. One of the best colors to sue with open floor plans is white. Sounds boring, I know, but I promise it’s not because we are going to be using a mixture of white and... Gray! This shouldn’t be a big surprise though considering gray is very trendy right now. The colors to use are; Lace Veil DE6372, Fallen Rock DE6389 and Fuzzy Duckling DE5936, these are all from Dunn Edwards. Pretty much all of the walls in your open house floor plan are going to be painted Lace Veil DE6372. It’s a very light color of gray. Fallen Rock DE6389 would be used for any architectural features like pillars in the kitchen, or even a hood vent painted Fallen Rock DE6389 works well. This is going to be used just as an accent color. Add in flooring made from gray cement, or faux wood flooring in deep brown, dark gray or even black alongside a few living room accents in Fuzzy Duckling DE5936 and you have the perfect open floor plan. By the way, Behr also has a Fuzzy Duckling paint, but it’s orangeier or peach though.
Bold Colored Walls
Make sure that if you do add a bold color to an accent wall in your living room, perhaps behind the TV and entertainment system, that you tone the brightness and boldness down, by adding in some neutral colors to really balance it out. For this sample we will be using Ionic Column 1016, Graystone 1475 and Habanero Pepper 1306. The Ionic Column is a very light tan color, with undertones of red - almost a rose color, but much lighter. This is going to be used on all of the trim in the living room; window trim, door trim, etc. It’s also going to be used on the light switches, sockets and wood trim around the floor boards. Next the Graystone, which is a very deep and beautiful gray color will be used on all three of the walls, including architectural features; a fireplace for example. And the star of the show, the Habanero Pepper 1306 will be used on an accent wall. An accent wall can be used on any wall, but usually it’s a wall that you want to accent-uate or you want people to focus their eyes on when entering the room. The entire accent wall will be painted Habanero Pepper 1306. Once you start adding in a few other items using the same colors like a tan chaise lounge and couch, black lanterns for the walls, and a pretty dark gray throw for the couch, it really begins to come together.
