Kitchen Paint Colors
Kitchen Paint Colors
If you are planning a new DIY project or you are hiring someone to paint the interior of your house, namely the kitchen, there are some things you should be aware of in terms of colors. Different colors not only create different visual looks, but also make a room look bigger, smaller, lighter, darker, etc. Colors can also make a room look smaller and cozier or brighter and bigger depending on what you’re looking for. If you continue to read below, you can get a better grasp on kitchen colors as well as benefits and disadvantages to these colors.
White Doesn’t Have To Be Boring
When people think of the color white, the think one of two things; it’s boring or it’s a canvas ready for colors to be added. Yes, white is a pretty boring color, just look at any apartment rental magazine and you can see just how blah this color really is. But, it’s one of the best colors to choose from because A) its neutral and B) it goes with everything. Neutral colors like white are usually painted on walls where the residency is being sold or rented. This is because it gives the potential seller a better understanding of how their own design and style will fit into the room. If you have the walls red for instance, and the potential renter or buyer has a lot of greens in their home style, it’s probably going to look more Christmas-y than anything else - a major turn off to buyers and renters alike. White however, goes with every color under the rainbow, including green! Personally, I like white walls sometimes because it really is a blank canvas and gives you the ability to add any colors, either to the surface of the walls (wallpaper, sponging techniques, etc.) or add in colors via flooring, appliances, backsplashes, etc. to create a colorful room.
Red Stimulates Appetites
Red is one of those big beautiful bold colors, that is very rarely used, or used in the right way anyway. Color psychology tells us that red stimulates hunger and also makes people lose track of time, which might be important to you if you have Sunday family dinners and you want them to last long into the evening! One thing to remember about the color red, especially bold reds, is that they shouldn’t be used on all four walls in your kitchen. Instead, it should be used sparingly. You can go about this in three ways. You can either paint an accent wall red - one wall to help draw people in. You can buy appliances that are red. Or you can even consider adding in accent colors that are red such as red cushions for your dining room chairs, a red rug or something even simpler like a red vase, red pillows, or red kitchen equipment and tools like a red toaster, red mixer or red backsplash.
Add Energy to a Room with Yellow
Adding yellow to all of the walls in your kitchen, is probably not the best thing in the world to do. However, like the red color above, it can be used as an accent, which means you can either use it as an accent wall, accent utensil gadgets or add in color using things like wall treatments, cushions for chairs, etc. Yellow comes in a variety of shades, so even if you don’t like something like lemon yellow, you might prefer a creamier color instead. If you really like the yellow color and how it looks, as well as the energy it brings to a room, you might consider painting a wooden kitchen island yellow too.
Trendy Gray
Gray has been a popular color for the past few years and will probably continue to be popular over the next few years. Gray might seem like an odd color to paint your kitchen, but like white, it goes with most anything to be honest. Consider a lighter gray for all of your walls and then go back and consider adding in pops of color for things like the trim around doorways and windows, or adding color in other ways such as cushions, gadgets, vases, a clock, etc. Some of the best colors that go with gray, especially in a kitchen are turquoise, any blues for that matter, tangerine, lavender, lemon chiffon and more.
